How Much Money One Can Earn From Google AdSense

Making money from a blog is a lucrative proposition, and AdSense is one of the top choices for bloggers who wish to monetize their blogs.

Despite the fact that affiliate marketing or CPA marketing pays more than AdSense, Adsense ads offer the peace of mind that comes with recurring income. Think of it this way: AdSense functions like a saving account where you will be paid mostly on a fixed interest rate, and affiliate marketing works as a mutual fund investment, where income can fluctuate but will be higher.

All of that aside, this post is not about Adsense vs. affiliate marketing, but instead it is about one of the most asked questions in my experience regarding AdSense.

Recently I was giving a workshop at a hosting summit, and following the summit someone asked me how much money she could make from her image-based website or any other easy-to-use niche for AdSense. And then a couple of days ago, a Shouter namedShubhan asked how much money he could earn from AdSense on his blog. All of this interest suggested to me that it was time to address this question in a ShoutMeLoud blog post.

Let me start by answering Shubhan’s first question:

Now to the second question, “How much I will earn from AdSense?”, (one of the most frequently asked questions from Shouters everywhere):

When I was new to AdSense, I had the same question. I had heard so many stories aboutpeople making $50/click or making thousands of dollars via AdSense every month.  I wondered if I could make that kind of money from AdSense. But to be honest, I never have made from Adsense the amount of money these other AdSense ninjas have made, and I will explain the reason below.

How you can calculate your future AdSense income:

I hate to disappoint you, but there is no sure, easy way to calculate your future AdSense earnings, because you cannot predict how much money you will make per click.  AdSense income is dependent on a on variety of factors.  Following are some of the most common factors which contribute to increased AdSense earnings:

The topic of your blog: 

Let’s start with the basics of AdSense. Google AdSense is based on the concept ofAdWords, where advertisers bids on keywords, and then ads are displayed on 3rd party websites like yours’ and mine using AdSense.

Over time, advertisers have become smarter, and they now bid more on long-tail keywords, as these offer better conversion.

In addition, there is the concept of high-paying and low-paying niches.  For example, a niche like health, financial loans or the legal niche have high CPC (cost per click), and other niches like movies or posters are considered low paying niches. The technology niche is a moderate AdSense niche, and income per click depends on various factors.

Your traffic demographic:

AdSense income also depends on the country which is sending you the most traffic. For example, if your blog is getting more traffic from countries like the U.S.A., you are more likely to earn more money-per-click on your AdSense ads. If, on the other hand, you are getting more traffic from developing nations like India and Nepal, you are likely to earn less/click (mostly pennies), and this difference is due to the difference in the average purchasing power of these nations.

Other common factors:

While the factors mentioned above are the most influential factors related to your Adsense earnings, other factors such as your Ad placement, ad blending, and types of Ads (image, text or both), also factor in.

All of these factors can easily be optimized by strategically implementing AdSense ads on your blog (above the fold and wisely blended). There are also a number of other factors which will require work before the launch of your blog which may contribute to your Adsense earning capacity.

There are many bloggers who create blogs expressly for the purpose of earning money using AdSense. There is nothing wrong with that, of course, but people usually give up on it relatively quickly as it doesn’t keep them glued for long. Moreover, without complete domain knowledge, the quality of a site goes down with time, and it it really doesn’t pay off well in the long run.
